Niki de Saint Phalle

Niki de Saint Phalle, born in Paris, France, 1930 became famous for her enormous and colourful sculptures. Most of these sculptures are of women, and are called nana's,
but she did sculpt other objects, as you can see here.

Niki created her first Nana in 1965 out of papier mache. Later she began to use plaster because it was sturdier and allowed her to make sculptures so huge people could walk through them. The Grotto in Germany and The Tarot garden in Tuscany, Italy are two of these sites.
After building a sculpture she painted or applied mosaic in wild patterns and bright colours.
If you ever get a chance to visit one of Niki's FABULOUS gardens DO NOT turn down the opportunity, they are like big wonderful playgrounds made out of beautiful sculptures.
If you go to one of her gardens you'll notice that there are alot of metal sculptures and fountains, These were created by her husband, Jean Tinguely.
In my opinion i like contrast between the dark, cold metal sculptures her husband made and the bright, bold, colourful shapes she created.
what do you think?
